City Road, London

£1.3 Million

Leslie Clark

777 Demolition have been contracted by Leslie Clark Construction Consultants to demolish a 4 storey office block with a roof top boiler room situated at City Road, Islington, London .

The Building has been scaffolded on all elevations due to its location.

777 Environmental have carried out the removal of Asbestos within the building and the soft strip has been completed.

The underground car park of the block is to remain as it still contains the main EDF Substation for the local area and will be propped by a Maybey System designed by our Structural Engineer to enable work by 360? machines.

This building is approx 300mm away from a newly opened development (Groveworld Limited) which means the first phase of the demolition needs to be done by hand , Top Down.

This is currently underway after negotiations with Groveworld Management to resolve any party wall issues. Once the first two bays ( 20m ) have been demolished a 360? machine will take over the next phase

Brokks are being used to hammer the floor slabs and ring beams cleared by Bobcats through an internal rubbish chute formed by a Brokk. All metal/wood is being separated at source to return back to Beddington Lane for recycling. Works are progressing to programme with approximately two weeks to complete the first phase of the Demolition works.

Demolition and dismantling specialist 777 Group has recently completed another major project in the centre of London using it two giant, 140 tonne Hitachi excavators. The latest undertaking centred on removing and recycling the subterranean foundations which once supported an uninspiring office block named Peggy Middleton House. With the building demolished several months previously, the removal of its foundations by 777 Group has ensured the site, which is currently at the centre of a £400m mixed-use regeneration scheme, will be available for developers on time and in good order.

Despite the immediate area having been earmarked for regeneration since the late 1990s, the recent extension of the Crossrail scheme to Woolwich has provided renewed impetus for a redevelopment scheme which includes the building a supermarket, 1000 flats and Greenwich council’s new civic offices on the site where Peggy Middleton House once stood.  With the green light finally given to developers, 777 Group was given just eight weeks to break-out and recycle the building’s foundations; a task which proved more challenging that it sounds according to 777 Group’s Business Development Manager Daryl Pearce, “During our initial examination of the site it was difficult to tell the depth and strength of the building’s concrete foundations. These unknowns, coupled with a time restriction for completing the project meant we had to deploy our machines and operatives en-masse at the site. Suffice to say, it was a good job we have the in-house capability for such undertakings as the foundations have proved tougher and deeper than first thought”.

Instrumental in 777 Group’s ability to break-out, crush, back fill and compact the concrete foundations has been its extensive fleet of demolition machinery which includes two heavyweight Hitachi EX1200 excavators. Equipped with mass-excavation arms the EX1200s weigh in at nearly 140 tonnes each. Whilst one machine utilised a 7m3 MST bucket made from Hardox steel, the other hosted a brand new Atlas Copco hammer. Reputed to be the largest volume produced hammer in the world, the 10 tonne Atlas Copco HB10000 was used to good effect to break out over 50,000 m3 of reinforced concrete. The attachment housed a 24cm wide pin which can smash against concrete at a rate of 380 times a minute. According to Daryl the breaker’s performance played a vital role, “The combination of one of our EX1200s coupled with Atlas Copco HB10000 breaker really sped up the demolition process. With the Hitachi’s strong hydraulic power pack supporting the giant hammer the concrete came free at an impressive rate. Of course, having a second machine which can shift the giant slabs of broken concrete also helped things along”.

Although the two EX1200s have been the undisputed heavyweights of the project, 777 Group also managed to field an impressive array of other demolition equipment including numerous 20 tonne, 45 tonne and 70 tonnes excavators as well as a mobile crusher and dust suppression unit. The extensive array of equipment deployed ensured the basement was removed in an expeditious manner whilst minimising noise and dust.

The number of vehicle movements into and out of the site was significantly less than most operations of this size thanks to an on-site recycling programme. Approximately half of all the concrete arisings generated by the foundation demolition were crushed, backfilled and compacted in-situ in order to facilitate a level change for the base of the new building. “Had the requirement been to simply break out the foundations and take them off to our recycling facility the project would have been completed in an even shorter period of time. However, in order to reduce the number of journeys to and from the site and the amount of primary aggregate required for the new development, it was decided to recycle some 25,000m3 of concrete and reuse it on site. Utilising the Terex Pegson crusher and our heavyweight EX1200s the material could be crushed, backfilled and compacted in an expeditious manner”, said Daryl. Further to this, some 200 tonnes of rebar was extracted from the concrete foundations and removed from the site.

With the project completed on time and on budget, 777 Group’s ability to rapidly and safely remove irksome, stubborn structures such as the foundations of an uninspiring office have again been proven thus ensuring the long overdue redevelopment of central Greenwich starts without delay

Domestic Demolition

Phased Bathroom Pod Removal

£1.2 Million

London Borough of Sutton

Industrial Demolition

Albion Wharf, Ipswich

The project consisted of a two stage contract. Stage 1 comprised preliminary works and demolition to foundation level. This stage included asbestos surveys, a controlled substance analysis, location of services and arranging disconnections, and the carrying out of building structural surveys and scaffold designs. Works were also undertaken in relation to the Wet Dock structure, carrying out all survey works both from dry standing and wet areas including below water surveys. All necessary licences and permissions were obtained to enable commencement of demolition works, and formal agreements were made with the local authority to progress works on a 24 hour basis.  This was necessary due to the location and close proximity of structures in relation to occupied properties, businesses, public footpaths and major roads as well as the wet dock.

Structures occupying the site were constructed in various forms from traditional brick and block, solid 450mm stock brick construction, steel frame, concrete frame and cast in situ concrete silos to 65m.  Works were completed with all buildings being demolished to slab level.

Stage 2 of the contract consisted of the removal of slabs, foundations, pile caps, pile probing and reduced bulk excavation, ground stabilisation and the installation of a designed piling mat. In all we removed some 18,240 tonnes of contaminated material from site. The company also remediated, screened and reused 9,500 tonnes of material excavated from below ground and 19,000 tonnes of crushed concrete from the building demolition which was processed to a certified 6f2 grading and used within the piling mat and ground stabilisation.

The company’s strategy is to maximise the recyclable materials from all waste streams eliminating potential transport costs and increasing its environmental gains

Dismantling

The increasing demand for replacement of out date and redundant tower blocks has enabled 777 to demonstrate our ability to dismantle tall structures safely and securely. Whether blocks are system built or structures cast insitu, the heights determine that different methods of dismantling are required. This is a complete package including the removal of any asbestos prior to the works and includes the design and installation of tower crane bases.

Before any crane lifting operations are commenced, site-specific studies are undertaken, detailing the exact planned position of the cranage, the types and weights of the elements to be lifted and the precise cutting operations to be effected.

Demolition

The face of the demolition industry has changed beyond recognition in the last decade and we have always been at the forefront, driving these changes. As well as keeping ahead of new methods and machinery, constantly-evolving legislation and new codes of practice, we are always aware that the safety of both our operatives and the general public is all important.

Every one of our projects is planned with careful consideration to both the immediate environment, where we make great efforts to minimise disruption to nearby businesses and neighbourhoods, and the environment in general. We are genuinely proud of the fact that 98% of the materials removed from all of our sites are either re-used or recycled keeping the need to use costly and damaging land-fill to an absolute minimum.

As well as our ongoing investment in people, with one of the highest levels of staff training and certification in our industry, our investment in plant and machinery is second to none. Our latest acquisition, a second long reach machine with a standing height of 200ft, is the tallest in the world and unique to 777 Demolition

Asbestos Removal

Working in this high-risk area for over 30 years, 777 Environmental recognises the absolute necessity for a safe and efficient service managed well beyond the standards of current legislation.

Asbestos surveys are carried out by our industry-leading and fully-qualified surveying team whilst removal is implemented by our ARCA-trained personnel. All work is constantly monitored both internally and in compliance with the ARCA Audit Accreditation Scheme. Any size of work can be carried out from a single domestic dwelling to massive multi-floor, multi million pound strip-outs. Soft strip and delicate demolition work, especially in highly sensitive situations such as operating hospitals and occupied offices, has become an area for which 777 Environmental has developed an enviable international reputation

Recycling acknowledges that the Earth’s natural resources simply cannot continue to be used just once. We currently recycle or re-use 98% of all materials as well as providing skip hire, and fully accredited asbestos management.

Tyre Recycling

777 Group has moved further into the tyre recycling market with the official launch of new technology capable of removing 100% of metal from used tyres.

This investment in tyre shredding technology at our Beddington recycling centre, has enabled us to increase our tyre reprocessing capability of 30 tonnes of tyres a day into rubber chippings.

The tyre shredding plant was officially launched On August 22nd 2008, with the technology allowing 777 to reprocess spent tyres from the public, councils and commercial businesses.

The technology, based on magnetic extraction, will allow 777 to increase its foothold in the tyre recycling market, making it capable of producing between 15 and 30 tonnes of 20 mm rubber chippings a day which are then sold onto third parties for use in artificial flooring surfaces or to be further processed.

 Spent tyres from cars, trucks and larger plants are fed into a pre-shredder, which cuts tyres into 200ml strips before they are fed into the main shredder, which then further processes the tyres into 20ml strips. The strips are then passed under a magnet where metal wiring in the tyres is extracted.

The 777 Group offers a collection service for tyres, as well as accepting tyres delivered to the site from local businesses such as tyre fitters and garages. During commissioning stages 20,000 fly-tipped tyres were reprocessed on behalf of Croydon council. Any Enquires should be directed at Malcolm Beattie on 0208 689 6861

Decommissioning

Ever changing regulations relating to the assessment for Business Rates make full decommissioning of buildings a viable option where the rental market turns down. It can be a costly process to leave an existing structure empty for landlords - We have seen a large demand for decommissioning especially in this uncertain economic climate.

Buildings can be zero rated where all of the non structural elements are removed and the building is therefore incapable of being put into beneficial use. 777 will undertake this decommissioning as part of our complete solution.

Enabling Works

We specialise in Pre-Demolition site enabling works which render difficult sites suitable for development.

Site remediation and enabling works address the following areas:

1.Sites secured

2.Diversions set in place and existing services terminated;

3.Demolition work and removal of structures and hazardous materials;

4.Removal of below ground obstructions;

5.removal, recovery, recycling and disposal of contaminated soil via 777 Recycling; excavations and site-wide clearance and preparation works including haul roads, access ramps, berms and piling mats

0ur demolition division is supported by ancillary activities that are essential to deliver our works to to the client according to the brief;

This includes

Retained Facades - 777 are able to offer the complet solution when it comes to facade rentention and support works. This can be fabricated and installed in full by us to our own specific design or the design of the clients preference.

Scaffolding - If required for dangerous structures, our scaffold design and erection team are on hand to install a bespoke scaffold package.

History

777 Demolition & Haulage Co Ltd later to become the 777 group was established in 1964 by the late Mr John Pearce. Mr Michael Pearce joined 777 Demolition in 1967 with the grand purpose of expanding and developing the company whilst working alongside his father and founder. At that time 777 employed just four staff and operated only two standard demolition machines and two lorries. 777 have come a long way since then.

Demolition and Asbestos removal has always been our primary activities and over the years we have evolved dramatically into a company that is able to provide a full and comprehensive “One Stop Shop” service.

777 announces smallest demo robot in the world

777 recently announced the acquisition of a new baby in the form of the latest addition to its family of robotic demolition machines, the diminutive Brokk 50. Originally designed to remove tiles from industrial settings, the 50 has found uses ranging from cleaning kilns for the ceramics and brick-making industries, to an essential role in the world's many nuclear power plants.

Now the Brokk 50 is proving invaluable to 777 Demolition as its ability to climb even the narrowest of staircases means this little wonder really can reach the places others cannot reach. But dispite its tiny footprint, the 50 manages to fight well above its weight and packs a mean punch.
